Paintings are a window to an artist’s thoughts…

Gauguin, Lautrec, and Van Gogh all were Impressionists who didn’t want to be Impressionists anymore. They all started their own styles of painting. Gauguin started Fauvism, Lautrec helped to start Art Nouveau, and Van Gogh started Expressionism. They all had their own style of painting. Although their styles are very different, their art is all called Post-Impressionism because the artists who created them were searching for new ways to paint that were unlike earlier Impressionist art. We compared groups of people, landscapes, and portraits by these three artists because they all are similar as a result of being Post-Impressionist, but they are all different because the three artists had different techniques for creating paintings.
