Ramses II was the greatest pharaoh of Egypt. Egypt is the only country to posses two of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the pyramids.
Ramses II built so many monuments in Egypt that one ancient source said , " He has made his monuments like the stars of the heavens." Over 40 million dollars were spent to save them from the rising waters of the Nile River.
Egypt needed more than an original thinker to rule the country. It needed a pharaoh that was a strong, practical ruler. Ramses II was that leader.
Ramses II succeeded for nearly 67 years in ruling Egypt. He was responsible for much of the construction at Laxer's funerary temple at Thebes. The rock- cut temples at Abu symbol, and sanctuaries at Abudons, and Memphis. After campaigns against the Hittites, Ramses II made a treaty with the Hittites, and married a Hittite princess. They had a son together named Merneptha.
When Ramses II died, there was a problem during the mummification process. They did not remove his brain! Some believed he was restless in his afterlife and other Egyptians thought his soul never made it to the afterlife. What do you think?
