Medicine

This paper tells us what methods the Ancient Egyptians used and different medicines to cure illnesses. If you read this you will find out the medicines we use today are not very different from the medicines the Ancient Egyptians used long ago.

Babylonians were people that came from other lands and they came to stay in other places. Many of the Babylonians went to Egypt and left behind medical writings that describes viruses, diseases, and other kinds of illnesses. What was known about medicine comes from two large fragments of writings. The Eber papyrus, and the Smith papyrus.

The Eber papyrus included spells for specific illnesses, as well as, prayers to the gods. Valuable prescriptions, such as, coster oil and tannic acid for burns were also used. The Eber papyrus also includes surgical advice that is still used today. The use of compression to stop bleeding and a section to explain diseases of the eye, heart, and other internal organs can be found in this writing.

Egyptians believed different kinds of illnesses came from different evil spirits. They believed the evil spirit enters a body and as a result, the body becomes ill. There were different ways to take out different evil spirits. For each evil spirit, the person who was sick, had to pray to the gods to become healthy again.

As you can see, some of the knowledge about medicine we know today was learned from Ancient Egyptians.
