Osiris


Once there was a god named Osiris and he ruled the underworld. It all begins with his brother Seth. Seth was god of violence, disorder, and storms. Osiris was a person who never liked violence.

Osiris's brother decided to have a party and invited all the gods. While everyone was having a good time Seth decided to make things more exciting. He said " Whoever fits in the box may take it home to sleep in it." Every single person at the party tried to fit in the box but they couldn't. Seth took measurements of Osiris and made the box the same size as him. So when it was Osiris turn he laid down in it. Of course, he fit perfectly. Before he could get out Seth slammed the cover to the coffin and threw Osiris in the Nile River.

Osiris had a sister-wife named Isis. She became extremely angry with Seth for what he did to her husband. Isis searched and searched for Osiris and finally found him. Unfortunately he was dead. She wrapped him in linen and left his body. Next , Seth came and cut Osiris's body into fourteen pieces and scattered them around the world! Isis became mad and depressed. She went around the world searching for her husband. When she found all the pieces to the body she renewed him and sent him to the underworld.

While Osiris was beginning his new role of king of the underworld, Seth wanted to become king of the Ancient World. What Seth didn't know was Osiris had a son named Horus. Horus overheard Isis talking to Seth about why she was mad.

One day Seth and Horus got into a long battle. Then, Seth made Horus lose an eye but at the same time Horus killed Seth. After the battle Isis saw what happened and renewed Horus's eye as an amulet.

In pictures and in jewelry the amulet represents renewal and protection. Osiris is represented in three colors green for spring and resurrection, white for mummy wrappings and black for the underworld.


Isis


Once there was a goddess named Isis. She is the goddess of magic and healing. She was the sister-wife to Osiris that she sent down to rule in the underworld. She was also mother-wife to Horus. The Egyptians believed that whenever Isis would cry for her husband she made the Nile River flow each year. Isis's headdress was shaped as a seat when she ruled. After the death of her husband Osiris, Isis married her son Horus. Isis was very sad when her husband Osiris died because she was worried that Seth was going to kill her. Isis went through a lot of pain when Osiris died because she had to wrap him in linen. Along with praying to the gods to tell them about the battle and the death of Osiris. The hard part was when she had to search for the 14 pieces of her dead husband. Then she had to help her husband in the underworld. The good part was when she renewed his life and her son's eye.

Anubis

Do you know why the jackal is sacred to the ancient Egyptians? Jackal's hover over deceased meat. The reason why the priest are masked with the jackal is because the priest are around the dead. He is shown as the jackal headed god because he is the god of the mummification process. Whenever someone dies the priest that embalms wears a jackal head. Egyptian felt, since Anubis embalms they should represent him. He is also god of the scale when weighing the heart. Anubis had no relatives only Osiris as a friend. Anubis was made a messenger to Osiris.


Seth

Seth is the god of violence, disorder, storms and chaos. He is the evil brother of Osiris, who he killed. His father and mother are a god and a goddess. The reason why he became a god of storm was because he had the throne when Osiris died. Horus, Osiris son, came and he battled Seth. As a result, Seth died. This is why he became the god of storms evil, violence, disorder and chaos.


Horus

Horus is the god of rising the sun. His father, Osiris, was killed by Seth. Seth gave Horus a job. His job was to take the dead souls to the underworld. There heart could be weighed. If the souls didn't go with Horus the souls would be eaten up. So, Horus did what he was told. Egyptians believed Horus fought Seth to get the throne that Osiris owned before.


Thoth

Thoth is the god of the scribes, moon, wisdom and science. He was the one who rescued Hathor and married her. Thoth works in the underworld by checking off the names of the dead souls that are about to have their heart weighed. When Thoth learned how to write he taught the people of Egypt. He also taught them what a scribe does and how to become one. Without Thoth, the Egyptians wouldn't have the process of writing.
