Hi, Silly Willy here from Rhodes. What a place! I just went back in time to visit the Colossus of Rhodes. When I first saw the statue I was amazed. I always wondered about it. Colossus of Rhodes took 12 years to build and was finished in 282 BC. The statue was located in a harbor in Rhodes. It was a 33-meter tall statue of Helios, the sun god. The statue was bronze colored, and the base was made of white marble. I visited it often while I was in the past. It stood for 56 years at the entrance of a harbor in Rhodes, Greece. I was there during the later years that it was standing. Then one day while I was in 226 BC, there was a strong earthquake in Rhodes. There was a lot of damage, but the thing that saddened me the most was that there was damage to the statue. Its weakest part, its knee, had been broken. Then in 654 A.D., when the Arabs invaded Rhodes, the remains were sold. The remains were sold to a Jew from Syria. I was very sad when Colossus of Rhodes was sold. |
