History of the Trombone

The trombone is a descendant of the trumpet.  It was made by William Bull in 1400.  He was trying to improve the Medieval long trumpet.  It was known as the Sackbut in the 1400s. Sackbut in Spanish meant “pull tube”.  The trombone was the first wind instrument that could play a scale.  The early trombone was not stable and could fall apart in your hands.  With little changes the trombone has kept its basic shape!  Cool, huh?  There are four real members of the trombone family.  They are the alto, tenor, bass, and contra bass.  The not true members are the soprano and sopranino.  See how to take care of your trombone.
