Flora of the Pacific Islands
There are many spectacular plants in the Pacific Islands. The plants we're going to describe are all lowland plants. They are found mostly at sea level and grow wild. Most of them are not endemic. They were introduced to the islands. They have adapted successfully because they are more efficient in their use of water and minerals, produce many seeds which helps them compete in the habitat, and the seeds spread out over a wide area. They also don't have insect pests eating them.
Chinese violet is a common plant found on most of the main island. This plant is
commonly used as a herb.
The
Tamatama is another commonly found plant in all the main islands of the South
Pacific.
The
vao uli is found in Samoa and is rare but is also seen in Hawaii.
