The conservation and management of Hawai'i's native forests are important to the preservation of native forest habitats. Management by government or private agencies include the control of feral grazing mammals, reduction of mosquito breeding sites, and the control of introduced plants, such as the banana poka vine that is choking out much of the native vegetation. These organizations have also helped to conserve Hawai'i's "natural areas" by creating and maintaining parks and preserves throughout the Hawaiian islands.
