Pogo Stick

Underneath a giant cinder block put into the woods of Ellenville, a broken sign welcomes customers.  Workers in the factory don't mind their company being called "old", "boring" or "plain".  The company is used to it because they make pogo sticks.

There's not a single thing you can do to change a pogo stick.  If you try, you're in big trouble.

The company which is the largest pogo stick company in the world, has used the same design for forty-three years.  The pogo stick is a y-shaped pole with two rubber foot pads and a spring.  A man named George B. Hansburg created the first pogo stick in 1919.

It's an awesome toy for bored kids.  It's not a fad that comes and goes.  It's a toy that kids can enjoy while parents cook or something, that parents can trust their kids with.

Pogo sticks have always held a place in a toy chest.  But its never had the popularity it had in the 1920's.  A guy named Gimbel had asked Hansburg, a toy designer living in the Illinois area, to come up with a better pogo.

He came up with an all metal pogo with a closed up spring and started painting pogos.  Hansburg started teaching follies how to jump with a pogo.  A group of girls performed whole shows on pogos.  In 1947 Hansburg designed a new pogo stick with a longer lasting spring called the Master Pogo.

The pogo stick is a great thing to study.
