The trombone has
merely changed over the last years. It was the same since the 15th
century. There are many trombones that can have valves. The thing that has
changed was the size of the bell. The slide is used to make the sounds deeper as
in the trumpet uses its valves. Pushing of the slide way or closer to the
instrument lengthens or shortens the tube. Anyone who is clumsy is not very
suitable to playing this instrument because the slide doesn’t tend to stay in
the trombone and it is not suited to be played fast. The tenor trombone is
common but the bass trombone has an extra section of tubing to distinguish it
from the tenor.
