The Belgian Aldolphe Sax in 1846, combined a clarinet mouthpiece with the fingerings of an oboe and the bell of a brass instrument, the result was the ever-popular saxophone. It is included in the clarinet group. At first the saxophone was meant for use in military bands, and it was used, but it made its mark in jazz and pop the hardest. It is the only woodwind instrument made of brass. Saxophones vary in color, size, and sometimes even shape. One sax that most likely you haven’t heard of is the soprano saxophone, when looked at it almost looks like a small saxophone that has been stretched out to become a golden clarinet. Today, the saxophone is still not considered a normal member of the orchestra.
