Many guitarists here today owe a thank you to the Old Spanish, if it weren’t
for them we probably wouldn’t have the modern guitar we have today. Traces of
a guitar like instrument can be found in ancient times, but wasn’t until the
14th century that the guitar was mentioned in writing. The guitar has
thought to have originated in Spain. It wasn’t until the 16th and
17th centuries that it started to become popular in other countries
around Europe. Its modern form was acquired in the mid 18th century.
19th century guitar makers seemed to have widened the body of the
guitar, and give it more of a curve in the middle. Les Paul didn’t invent the
electric guitar until about the 1930s. The classical guitar is a descendant of
the lute. The carpenter Antonio de Torres Jerado gave the modern design of the
guitar in the early 1800s.
