Music

Most of the Mardi Gras music was originated from the Mardi Gras Indians. Their most important song was “Indian Red.” “Indian Red” was sung by the Big Chief which is a prayer he sings on Mardi Gras morning.

Bands from schools play their instruments in parades. Some floats have DJ’s riding in the back of them.

When Mardi Gras music is played, it is said to capture the spirit of Mardi Gras.

Songs played during the Mardi Gras season are:

 “Big Chief”

 “Mardi Gras Mambo”

 “New Suit”

 “Carnival Time”

 “Iko Iko”

 “They All As For You”

“If Ever I Cease to Love”
