History

Mardi Gras originated in the middle of the second century, in Rome. As far as we know, the French were the first to celebrate Mardi Gras in America, somewhere in the years of 1699-1700. Mardi Gras officially begins 12 days after Christmas, which is January 6th. Mardi Gras Day always falls 46 days before Easter and the day before Ash Wednesday, and it ends at the stroke of midnight.

The official colors of Mardi Gras are gold, which stands for power, purple, which represents justice, and green, which stands for faith. Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday." It is often called this, because on the night of Mardi Gras Day people have a big feast, because the next day is the beginning of Lent, in which they were expected to fast. Mardi Gras is also often referred to as, " The Greatest Free Show on Earth"

In case you are wondering, Mardi Gras is a great place to visit and bring children.
