Doubloons

Doubloons are large aluminum coins which you catch from a krewe member in a parade. Doubloons usually have the dates of the year the parade began and the year you caught the doubloon. The doubloons also have the parades emblem or insignia on them.

Do people collect them? Sure. Many people collect them. Some collections are worth a lot of money. I guess you wonder why they can be worth a lot of money? Probably because Louisiana and a little bit of a few other states are the only states that celebrate Mardi Gras.

There are to kinds of doubloons, large and small. The small doubloons have fifty pieces and the large doubloons have two hundred pieces. Although they are different sizes they come in the same colors. Most parades throw doubloons, but not all of them. Although many doubloons are real and minted, some are fakes.
