Mount Etna has had some one hundred thirty five recorded eruptions. An eruption in 1169 killed about 15,000 people and another in 1669 killed about 20,000 people.

Mount Vesuvius is near Naples (Napoli) in Italy. The mountain elevation is 4190 ft. The most recent recorded eruption was in 1944. An eruption in AD 79 destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Stabiae under ashes and Herculaneum under a mudflow.
