Cinder Cones

Cinder cones are the simplest volcanoes. They are built from particles and blobs of congealed lava ejected from the main vent. As they fall down, they break down into small fragments(cinders). They pile up, making a particularly steep and shaky mountain, which gives a good reason for why eruptions usually blow part of the mountain away. Most cinder cones have a bowl shaped crater at the summit that usually fills up with rainwater when inactive. Paricutin is an excellent example of a cinder cone.
