Virginia
1735 - His family moved to a large undeveloped
plantation later called Mount Vernon
1746 - Formal schooling ended at age 14 or 15
1753 - Carried British ultimatum telling French to
get off British land in the Ohio River Valley.
French refused and this lead to the French
and Indian War
1754 - Surrendered Fort Necessity in the French
and Indian War, to the French
1755 - Washington returns to fight the French as an
aide to General Braddock
1755 - Commanded Virginia's troops, as a colonel,
until 1758
1759 - Married Martha Dandridge Custis
1774 - Elected delegate to first Continental
Congress
1775 - Elected delegate to second Continental
Congress
1775 - On June 16, Washington is appointed
commander of the American army in the
Revolutionary War
1776 - On July 4th, Declaration of Independence is
adopted and the United States is born
1781 - Victory at Yorktown
1783 - Peace treaty signed and the Revolutionary
War was ended
1787 - Elected president of the Constitutional
Convention
1789 - Elected First President of the United States
1792 - Re-elected President of the United States
1798 - Commissioned lieutenant general and
commander-in-chief of new United States
army
1799 - Died at Mount Vernon at the age of 67
