Hanukkah is the first holiday I'm going to talk about. To celebrate Hanukkah, a Jewish religious ceremony, people would use a Menorah (candle holder). For Hanukkah, people would light candles for eight nights. Today it is just the same, but sometimes people get presents for the eight days.

After Hanukkah, there is Christmas (a Christian religious event). Back in the Middle Ages, Christmas was a twelve day festival. In the Middle Ages, church people were sometimes scared that Christmas was over. In Germany, they celebrate Christmas for almost eight weeks! BUT sixteen holidays are in that stretch of that eight weeks. [Wouldn't that be fun!]

During Easter lots of people would give people colored eggs. They didn't have an Easter bunny back then.
