Education
Ancient Rome did not have public schools . Children received their education
from 6 or 7 to 10 or 11 years old. They were taught by slaves. They learned
reading, writing, and arithmetic. They usually studied at private schools
or at home. Some Children who came from wealthy families, studied until
they were 14 years old. They studied Greek and Latin grammar and literature.
they also studied astronomy, mathematics, and music. Some wealthy Romans
had their children study rhetoric. Rhetoric is the art of public speaking
and persuasion.
