Around 1438 the empire began to expand, it covered a bast amount of land and was centered on the capital which was located in southern Peru. Two thousand five hundred miles of the western coast of South America was covered by the Incan Empire. Parts of present day Ecuador, Columbia, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, and Chile were included in this area. In 1532 shortly after their arrival the Spanish forces conquered the Incan Empire.
A complex political system was used by the emperor to rule his far reaching territory. Military force was used by the Incas to take over many regions. A balance between local rulers and the center authority of the emperor was kept by the political system. The original title of the emperor was Inca, but after the Spanish conquest everyone who was under the rule of the emperor was known as Inca.

The Incans were very skilled when it came to engineering and crafts.
