Once upon a time, there was once a bald eagle family that called themselves The Eagles with Hair.  They called themselves this because they were one of the only bald eagles around that actually had hair and all of the other bald eagle families were very bald.  This family lived in Northwest Arkansas in the Ozark Mountains.  At that time, there were many bald eagles living in Northwest Arkansas.  The Eagles with Hair were a very popular family among the other families.  Some eagles even believed that they had special powers because they were the only ones with hair and that they had cast a special spell on themselves to get hair.  But, no one had as many powers as The Mighty One who was the king of all of the eagles.  The Mighty One was a very nice eagle not like other kings but, he was getting very old and would have to retire very soon.  So, in a few moons they would have to find a new king to take his place.  The new king was to be elected by The Mighty One and his council.  So, everybody tried to be extra nice and helpful to the council and The Mighty One.  One of the bald eagles that was trying to be the new king was Billy and he happened to be one of The Eagles with Hair.  Billy was trying as very hard as he could to be extra helpful and nice to the council and The Mighty One.  There was another eagle who wanted to get the position more than anybody and his name was Alfred.  Alfred was not one of The Eagles with Hair but, he was just a regular bald eagle.  Alfred was almost sure that he wasn't going to get the position because as legend has it, it has been told that the king and his council picks a eaglet that is popular and has the right qualities.  It was not very fair to Alfred because he was not popular but, he did have all of the right qualities.

            One the day of the election all of the bald eagles went to The Main Roost to vote about the election of the new king.  At 5:00 that day the polls would come in to tell who was to be the new king.  At a little before 5:00 all of the bald eagles of Northwest Arkansas met at the main roost to find out.  Everybody was almost sure that Billy was going to win.  But, Alfred was not going to get his hopes up! At exactly 5:00, The Mighty One stepped onto a branch that was above The Main Roost so that everybody was sure to see him and to hear him.  The Mighty One said, "Attention everybody, the council and I have decided that Billy is going to take my place as king!"  Then there were tons of cheering and people saying "Hooray!" and "Yippee!" and "Yeah for Billy!"  But, then Alfred just started to fly away because he was very sad that he did not get the job.  Then, Billy saw him and started flying after him.  When he finally caught up with him he asked what was wrong with him and Alfred told him about how hard he had worked and how hard he had wanted this job.  So, Billy decided that Alfred should take his job as the new king!  But, Alfred said no you wanted this really bad! So, Billy said that Alfred really deserved the job, and so Alfred said all right!  And for the rest of their lives they were life long friends and in return Alfred gave Billy a job on the council!!
