On July 2nd
1999 President Clinton and secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit announced
a proposal to "delist" the bald eagle from the endangered species act (ESA)
protection. My pal ''Challenger" was there to make the announcement.
(Challenger is a non-releasable bald eagle and he works for the National
Foundation to protect American's bald eagles, [NFDAE].)
July 4th 2000 will be
a day to celebrate the birth of our country and the removal of the bald
eagle off the endangered species list. But, they will still be protected
because they are the national bird.
