.1. Adolescent Issues/ From birth to age ten our lives revolved or revolve around our family and friends, but beyond that age we change into the...TEEN YEARS! We grow and change our daily lives. These changes are emotional, physical, moral, and intellectual stages of life. So let's just say we aren't as babyish at this age! We are becoming smarter and stronger and we are starting to make big decisions!
SOME BOOKS THAT USE THESE ACTIONS ARE.....
A Fine White Dust byCynthia Rylant
The 18th Emergency by Betsy Byars
Alice in April by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
2. Survival and Adventure/ Survival and Adventure stories are stories that talk about life-threatening situations that the characters have. They are books with lots of excitement and danger! So if you enjoy stories filled with adventure and excitement you will love these two books...
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen AND
Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers
3. Persons with Disabilities/ Many of us are living with diseases or live with someone who has a disability. You may have a disability that is physical, like scoliosis or multiple sclerosis; emotional, like depression or mental retardation; but we don't like to show that we are different. Authors these days are helping people with these diseases by making the main characters in their stories handicapped. That gives us courage and the strength to continue life! An example of this kind of story is the Newbery Winner "Crazy Lady" by Jane Leslie Conly.
4. Cultural Diversity/ Part of growing up is understaanding that people are different than you. We are all growing up in different societies or groups of people. You may have friends that are a different religion or they may speak a different language. Multiculture books are those that explain the differences of people like religion, culture, and race. Examples include
Busters World by Bjarne Reuter.
Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind by Suzzanne Fisher Stamples
The greatest example is... Yellow Bird and Me by Joyce Hansen
Authors of this topic have said they love this value because they know that their books can get all the way around the world and can be explained to people of all ages...
