Yo-Yo History Historians say that the Greeks were first to make a yo -yo. First came the invention of the wheel, and then came the yo-yo. Although historians aren't positive when the first yo-yo was invented, a fact they do have is that they were made around 400-500 B.C. They found the oldest yo-yo in Greece. There are museums with yo-yos from this time period, they have these yo-yos in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The next period in yo-yo history is the Mayna era, which was around 700 A.D. There also is a yo-yo from this period, that is in the Anthropological Museum in Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula. There is rarely an old yo-yo that isn't damaged alot. Like the yo-yo found in Greece, that was one of the most non-damaged yo-yos found, and that isn't saying much!

The next time period is in the late 1700's and the early 1800's. Napoleon was known to have and carry a yo-yo. I would presume that he was a left-hander because a lot of his pictures that i have seen, showed him with his right hand tucked in his jacket, and his left hand hanging freely. At about the same time, King Louis XVII has a painted picture of him playing with a yo-yo.

November 20, 1866 Charles Hittrick and James L. haven of Ohio got the first patent for a yo-yo In the United States.

1887 was an important time for yo-yos

there were improved methods for the so called

"Wheel Toy."

In the Philippines the yo-yo was quite popular in the 19th century. In the 1920s there was a man by the name of Flores that manufactured yo-yos in the Bay area . This man lived in San Francisco. These were the oldest mass yo-yos production known
