THE HISTORY OF
PAPER AND PAPER SCULPTURE

Paper was invented during the Han Dynasty, by the Chinese. That was around the year 202 BC. Before Paper, such things as bamboo slips, or pieces of silk, were used. When paper was produced, people decided it was easier to use, being more lightweight than bamboo, and also less expensive than silk. When it was first made, such things as tree bark, scraps of hemp, rags, and fish netting were put into paper. It was made of very poor quality.
There were traces of paper sculpture as early as the year 105 AD. That was around the time when paper became known and available to everyone. Before that, it wasn't made in large quantities. With this new product coming out, creativity was sparked in the minds of people, and small paper sculptures were turned into masterpieces.
