Our Microscopic Enemies

Our microscopic enemies are germs, yes germs. They are very small, or as you could say - microscopic creatures. Some germs are good and some germs are bad.

Bacteria are microscopic and viruses are even smaller.

Viruses are the smallest creatures on the earth. They are one celled and microscopic, which means they can't be seen by human eyes. A high powered microscope must be used.

Can you imagine how many viruses can fit on the head of a pin? Over one million!

Virus is a Latin word for "poison." Some viruses look like tadpoles. Viruses cannot multiply by themselves. They need a host (for instance a human cell) that they infect.

Coccus is the bacterium shaped like a sphere.

Bacillus is a bacterium shaped like a rod.
