The American Revolution Days
Before the American Revolution there were many problems between the Colonies and Great Britain. In the year 1765 the British put a tax on legal documents and certain publications. This was called the stamp act. The stamp act created the idea of "No taxation without representation. The colonists soon realized though, that representation would not help them at all. Their votes would always be outvoted. The next year the Stamp Act was repealed.
In 1770, five Americans were shot outside a bar. British soldiers shot them. This was called the Boston Massacre and it was protest against the Townsend Acts. The Townsend acts were follow up acts of the Stamp Act. It imposed a harsh tariff on good coming into the colonies. Making it very difficult to purchase goods.
In December of 1773, Colonists dressed as Native Americans three hundreds of boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. This was a result of the tax that had been placed on tea. This was a huge problem because tea was the colonist main drink. This was called the Boston Tea Party.
On April 18th, 1775 Paul Revere heard of the plans of the British to go to Lexington and Concord to capture military stores. He rode off into the night and warned the colonists of the British.
On April 19th the shot heard around the world was fired. No one knows who shot it they only or what side they were from. This one shot began this long war. From then on everything was fighting.
