The Civil War

The Civil consists of many battles, political events, tariffs, and many more, all which made a deference to the outcome of the war. The Civil War started in 1861 and ended in 1865. In 1861 the differences between the Northern States (which included the Mid-Western and Western States) and the Southern States became so great that compromise would no longer work. Abraham Lincon once said in 1858 that "A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half-slave and half-free." It was the greatest war in American History, some say. It was one of the most momentous and controversial periods in american history. In the war 3,000,000 fought and 600,000 died. More Americans died fighting the civil war then any other conflict in our country’s history. The war had many factors, the biggest being slavery. Yet states rights were also a major factor. It was fought from New Mexico to Tennessee to Vermont and Florida. Some of the Battles were even fought in peoples backyards.

Civil war was the only war fought on American soil by Americans, and for that reason we have been fascinated with it.
