WaterSafety: Boat Safety

 General Boat Safety

Boating Safety is always a good thing to know because riding on boats is actually pretty fun.
  • An important thing to know is to wear a life jacket!!! Especially people who don't know how to swim, but even if you do it is not a bad idea.
  • If you are 18 or older, you don't have to wear a life jacket, but it is a good idea to do so.

  • Always wear a small mouth operated whistle so if you are in distress you can call for help and get rescued.
  • Check for enough fuel when you start out so you don't get stuck in the middle of a body of water.
  • Both passengers and operators should keep both feet on the floor of the boat. Never sit on the sides of the boat, especially when it is underway.
  • Make sure you have a fire estinguisher onboard and that it is in proper working order.
  • Always bring the supplies you need for your trip on the water. If you are rafting and one of the paddles hits the rocks and your paddle breakes you will need another one. Also bring a bucket to bale out water if too much water gets into your boat.
