Glaucoma
-
All of the
different forms of glaucoma occur when a drainage canal of the eye is totally
or partially blocked. Pressure builds within the eye because fluids are
entering the eye but no fluids are going out. If caught in the early stages
all known forms of glaucoma can be cured with surgery.
-
Primary
open angle glaucoma is one of the types of glaucoma. It is painless and
the only symptom is a gradual loss of vision. At first only the side or
peripheral vision is affected so people rarely realize that they have glaucoma
until it is too late.
-
Acute angle-closure
glaucoma usually occurs in people who have an abnormal eye shape. People
may experience sudden painful glaucoma attacks that cause very blurred
vision. These attacks can easily be treated with eye drops or other forms
of medication.
-
People who
have a family history of glaucoma, are nearsighted, have diabetes, or have
had previous eye surgery or eye injury have a greater chance of getting
glaucoma.
