To start you off this is the
basic outline of the eye.
We will add parts one by one,
and will describe them along the way.

Sclera coat - is a protective coating that covers the outside of the entire eye.
Cornea - is the transparent dome that covers the front of the eye.
Optic Nerve -is the thick nerve extending from the eye to the brain which transports the images that the eye receives to the brain where they are interpreted.
Lens - focuses the light on the retina, similar to the way a camera lens works.
Iris
- is the muscle that adjusts the size of the pupil, and also varies in
color from person to person. The pupil is the empty hole in the iris.
Choroid - the pigmented tissue situated between the retina and the sclera coat.
Below is a graphic of the eye
with the lens, iris, ciliary body and choroid added, to show their location.
The two muscles holding the
lens in place are the ciliary muscles.
Blind
Spot
- is the area where the optic nerve
and retinal blood vessels enter the eye. It is blind because there
are no rods and cones to make vision possible.
It is indicated in the image below by the purple dot. To take a fun
test on your blind spot, click here .
Retina- covers 2/3 of the eye. It receives the focused image, and sends it to the optic nerve.
Blood vessels - run throughout the optic nerve, delivering blood to the eye.
Vitreous Humor - is a thick, clear fluid in the central area of the eye, that provides a cushion for the eye.
Muscles - hold the eye in place, and allow it to rotate. There are actually six, but from this view there appear to only be two.
Below is
a picture of the entire eye and all of its parts, all which work together
to allow you to see.
The parts are colored matching
their pictures above.
