Organized Lists
When you are solving a problem sometimes there is a lot of information, so you have to
make a list. That is what this web page is for, to teach you how to make an
Organized List. First I will give you a problem and then I will help you make an
Organized List.
HOW TO:
So, you
need to know HOW TO make an Organized List, well that's what I am here for. First
you read the problem carefully, then you read it again, looking for the main ideas.
Next get a piece of paper and write down those main ideas or the important
information. Then when you know you have all the information that you need, start
solving the problem. When you are done, check your results carefully.
EXAMPLE
You have four
school buses and you need to get 288 fifth graders to a fair. Each of the buses can
hold 36 kids/ two kids per seat. It will take the buses 30 minutes to get to the
fair. How long will it take all the buses to get to the fair?
OK, now you need
to read it again and write down the main parts of the problem with me.
4 buses
36 kids on
each bus
30 minutes to
get to the fair
First each of
the four buses takes 36 kids to the fair 36x4=144
kids That will take the buses 1 hour to get to and back from the
fair. Then they pick up another 144 kids. 144+144=288. So it
will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to get all the children to the fair. Now it
is your turn, remember the steps...
1.Read
2.Read again
3.Write down
important information
4.Solve
5.Check
Ok, now it is yout
turn to solve a problem by making an Organized List.
There are 2 kids
that wiegh 75 pounds each and 2 adults that wiegh 150 pounds each. They are all on
one side of the lake and are trying to get to the other side. They have one
boat that can hold 150 pounds. How can they all get to the other side of the lake?

Ok, now read it
again and make an Organized List.
After you click
ANSWER, please move the arrow back up to here and read the writing below.
It it ok if you did
not get that question correct. There are still other problems that I am sure that
you can solve. All you have to do is either find another website that has problem
solving in it, or get any math book and just open any page and you will have a whole new
world of problem solving "Making Organized Lists"!!! I hope that you
learned a lot and that you won't stop learning here, you will go learn bigger and better
things about making lists and solving problems!! Bye Bye!
Organized List
two, 75 lbs kids
two, 150 lbs
adults
1 boat, holds 150
lbs
try to get to
other side of the lake
The two kids get
into the baot to go across, drop one off then the other one sails back, get out of the
boat and one adult gets in and sails across. Then the child climbs in and sails across.
So now you have both kids, one adult and the boat on the other side of the lake.
One child gets into the boat and sails across. Gets out of the boat and the
adult gets in and sails across. Then the second child gets in, sails across to the
other side, picks up the other child and they both egt into the boat and sail across to
the other side of the lake where the two adults are. Now they are all on the other
side of the lake.
If you did not get
this correct, don't worry, it was a difficult problem!! But congragulations if you
got it correct!!! :)
