Glossary
These are some of the words that we have used in our website. They are the ones that you may have trouble with.
Conversions - Changing one unit of measurement to another.
Linear - The measuring of lines.
Measurements - Size, amount or extent found by measuring.
Volume - The number of cubic units a number contains.
Metric System - The system of measurement used in more of the world than the standard system is. The main measurement is the "meter". Common measurements - millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer.
Standard System - The system of measurement used in America. The main unit is "feet". Common measurements - inches, feet, yards, miles.
Diameter - A straight line starting on the side of a circle, crossing the center point, and going to the other side.
Radius - A straight line going from the center point to the edge of a circle.
Center Point - The center of a circle.
Circumference - The distance around a circle.
Area - The space within a object.
Perimeter - The measure of the outside of a shape.
Pi - The symbol that stands for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi equals about 3.1415927.
