Linear Conversions
Did You Know?
Conversion can also mean changing the
standard unit of measurement into the Metric
System.
This chart shows linear conversions using the standard unit of measurements. The first column is what you have, and the first row is what you are making out of it. So, if you have 120 inches, and you want to make it into feet, you will look at the inches row, and the feet column. So you divide 120 by 12 to get how many feet are in 120 inches 10!
| Inches | Feet | Yards | Miles | |
| Inches | × 1 |
÷ 12 | ÷ 36 | ÷ 63,360 |
| Feet | × 12 | × 1 |
÷ 3 | ÷ 5,280 |
| Yards | ÷ 36 | ÷ 3 | × 1 | ÷ 1,720 |
| Miles | × 63,360 | × 5,280 | × 1,760 | × 1 |
Conversions can also be used for volume, capacity, and weight, but you won't need that for this project.
