Barons were chief noblemen. Barons controlled a large amount of land and on this land the Barons made all the laws and legal decisions. Even the King did not have the power to rule over the decisions of the Baron and his land. The Baron had to provide protection, support, money and knights or soldiers. Children inherited the Baron's land and ruled it if he did not break his oath to the king. Each baron may or may not have their own colors or flags.
