Yellowstone fire:

In the summer of 1988 forest fires ravaged the Yellowstone National Park. At times flames were a mile wide and were moving as fast as any human being could walk. On "Black Saturday" (August 20) more acres burned in one day than during any decade since Yellowstone was established in 1872. In the end, one-third of Yellowstone was hit by the fire.

Australia's bush fire

1983.

It was the hottest February on record. In some parts of Australia it hadn't rained for four years. The wild country was dry as a bone. Animals searched in vain for water. Bushes started to smolder and then caught fire under the sun's intense heat. Soon a wall of fire 50 feet tall was rolling over the land reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour. (Faster than most speed limits at the time!) 70 people were killed in the blaze, and 8,500 people were left homeless. The blaze also killed 200,000 cattle and sheep and countless numbers of kangaroos and koalas.

Flaming Fires

Fires are orange and red,

Dancing all around.

Don't hide under your bed,

Just get to safe ground.
