Blizzard hazards

Large quantities of snow can cause the roof of the building to collapse. Electric wires and telephone cables can snap under a load of heavy ice. Broadcast antennas can become choked with ice, threatning any communication. Falling temperatures can cause hypothermia if caught in a storm without a source of heat. Motorists trapped in the storms can freeze to death, or they might freeze trying to walk to shelter. Blizzards can reach hurricane forces.

New York City Blizzard

One night in 1888, the city of new york city, people were preparing for a mild winter storm. (most blizzards begin with a weather forecast that calls for a light snow.) Almost 24 inches of snow fell out of the night sky that night. The city was completely paralyzed. The east river froze. This allowed people to walk over the river between Manhatten, and brooklyn. 400 people died from the freezing cold.

Blizzards

In 1940,in Midwestern us, and canada, a blizzard moved through the midwestern united states from canada. It killed 100 people from the rocky mountains to louisiana. 4 months later, another blizzard killed 60 people in the same area.
