The Arab originally grew and flourished in what is now Syria, Iraq, Iran, and in other parts of the Arabian Peninsula. The Arabian horse was primarily used for war, as were most horses at that time. Some mares were used for raiding enemies and villages. There were more numbers of Arabs outside of it's land in the Great Desert. The Bedouins have generally been credited with the beginning of the pure breeding of Arabian horses. The Bedouins were the first owners of the Arabian horse, they bred them to be what they are today. Bedouins would also race their horses, the winner receiving the best horses from the loser's herd. It was a great honor to receive a mare as a gift, and legends were often told that mares were stolen or bought at a great price. The Arabians that any Bedouin owned would sleep in the tent with its owner. Many are used for Costumes in shows now. Arabs have been working with people for over 1500 years. They were bred as desert war horses. Arabs may have been the breed of choice to go on Noah's Ark. They love human companionship. Arabian thoroughbreds are regarded as the purest breed of horses in the world. No other horse has had such a great influence on so many other breeds. Over centuries, the Arabian has been used to develop Andalusians, Lipizzaners, English thoroughbreds, and Trakehners. Arabians have been around since about the year 2000 B.C. If Arabians and Native Mares crossbreed with each other you get an Andalusian. Arabs have a bigger population outside of their native country. They are known for their strength, beauty, and stamina that has earned them admiration and adoration. The Arabian is the oldest purebred horse. Ancient breeding originated in the Middle East and has been around since at least 2000 B.C., other scientists still say 5000 B.C. There are many myths and theories concerning the Arabian horse. Most traditional legends including the Bedouin legends surround the Arabs roots in history. In most cases Arabians are considered a gift from God. The origin of the name Arab is unclear, possibly it deprived the concept of homadism "Arab ha". Showing or pleasure riding Arabs became the breed of choice in endurance in the world because of their stamina and agility. It is unknown whether Arabs were needed for the Bedouin to insure their survival. They were primarily used for quick things such as crimes. Stallions were usually held higher than mares.
