Tap Dancing Concepts

Spank: brush back       

Stamp: a step with the whole foot   

Brush: a brush on the ball of your foot   

Step: a step on the ball of your foot   

Flap: a brush step   

Shuffle: a brush spank

Bebop: A style of jazz that is distinguished by a jagged and extraordinary rhythm.

Broadway Tap/ Show Tap: A style of tap dance that points out the presentation and arrangement of steps.

Challenge Dance: An African tradition where the participating dancers compete with each other.

Choreography: The composition of dance.

Chorus Line: A line of dancers who do the same dance steps all at once.

Improvisation: Dancing without choreography.

Minstrel: A musician or entertainer who traveled from place to place.

Pantomime: A movement that copies something, most often it is an animal.

Polyrhythm: Use of mire than one rhythm at the same time.

Rhythm: A musical pattern of regularly recurring sounds or beats.

Swing: Style of jazz described by a steady, energetic rhythm with improvisation.

Vaudeville: A theater show that features an assortment of short acts.
