Swan Lake
When his birthday arrived, his celebration was more lively than any and he seemed to be very happy. As his mother came home Prince Siegfried welcomed her home she interrupted briskly "We have a serious matter to discuss, now that you are old enough to over through me, it is time for you to get married." "But I am not in love" protested Prince Siegfried with a grin. "That is not important", the Queen continued, "I have invited all the young ladies to a ball tomorrow." Siegfried decided to go hunting and followed the ancient paths into the dark forest. He raised his crossbow and took aim. At that moment a swan left the lake and suddenly became a beautiful woman. This was Odette, queen of the swans, she and the rest of the swans had a spell cast on them. Rothbart an evil sorcerer cast a spell where they are only human from midnight till dawn and they are swans the rest of the day. Suddenly Rothbart appeared. Odette tried frantically to resist his magic but, she was forced out of Prince Siegfried's arms and back into a swan.
Siegfried raised his arm and swore his love, and Rothbart burst into mocking laughter. "You have betrayed Odette and now she will remain mine forever. Next Rothbart and Odile vanished. The Prince realized he had been tricked and ran to fix the terrible wrong he had committed. "I have failed you, " she told the other swans Siegfried has broken his promise and betrayed me. Now we have little hope of escaping from Rothbart's spell." Sorrow increased as the night wore on and Siegfried did not did not appear. Suddenly a violent storm whipped across the lake. As the swans huddled together in the wind, Siegfried dashed into their midst and threw himself at her feet. Rothbart suddenly appears and snatches Odette from Prince Siegfried. He attacked the Prince directly but, Siegfried fought back. Odette seized he chance and stumbled into the lake. Siegfried had lost her once and would not again, so he followed her into the lake. At last they were united. Their overwhelming love for each other defeated Rothbart and destroyed his magic. |

High in the
mountains of a distant land, far above the villages and farms, in a huge stone
castle, lived prince Siegfried and his mother the Queen. Each year his birthday
celebration was huge and this year he was becoming a man. 
The following night
came. The ball began ,yet Siegfried refused to choose a bride. He could think of
nothing except his love for Odette. Two unknown figures appeared one was
Rothbart, transformed as a tall figure and the other his daughter Odile
transformed to look like Odette. Fooled by her looks Prince Siegfried danced
with Odile (which he thought was Odette). By the end of the night he announced
that they were to be married.
