The 1930s The middle stage of modern dance arose in New York City, 1930. New dancers
included Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey
Postwar Developments After, the dreaded World War II ended in 1945, the last and final stage of modern dance began, as it still continues today. These American dancers-Alwin Nikolais, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey and Twyla Tharp- revolutionized modern dance. Merce Cunningham mixed Martha Graham’s dance with common ballet. While, Tharp went to the extreme limit of what was considered dance. These works combined techniques from all other styles of dance.
