George Balanchine George Balanchine, or Georgi Melitonovitch Balanchinadze, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1924 he departed Russia joined a ballet company, in France, becoming a leading choreographer. Coming to America in 1933 he founded the School of American Ballet. Which in 1948 became the New York City Ballet. He was a very important choreographer of ballet in the 1900`s. He was founder and artistic director of New York City Ballet, a leading dance company. He was creative and could develop series of movements in uncommon ways. He tested fast, energetic dancing style containing different ways of direction. He used flexed feet, not the original pointed. George created over 400 different ballets. Most of his ballets were traditional dance. His ballets were based on music of the 1700`s throughout the 1800`s. George Balanchine had an interesting way of performing and inspired many people. |
