Bob Fosse Bob Fosse was a dancer and choreographer who took movements and images from burlesque halls. He conceptualized Broadway shows, television shows, and videos that were made to razzle-dazzle his audience. Bob Fosse was a genius at creating entertaining dances. Fosse synthesized movement, music, and concept to create works of theatre. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in the year of 1927. He began dancing as a child to gain attention from others. Fosse picked up work dancing in movies. The dance Steam Heat was one of his greatest hits. In 1973 he won the Tony award for the Broadway show Pipin. After that he won an Oscar and an Emmy award. His choreography became secondary to his writing. Critics look past Fosse’s work, seeing it as razzle-dazzle. He was a master of concept. He used his vast history to tell his story in ways that were unique, informative, and exciting. The movie "All That Jazz", and the new musical "Fosse" showcase his life and his work. |
