Parrots Are Marvelous
Up ]

Did you know that parrots are marvelous because these birds are excellent talkers? People love to listen to these birds carry on conversation with each other or with people they know. Some never stop talking and they will entertain you with their comments.

Did you know that parrots are able learn to copy what you say? All you have to do is say a word or a phrase and they can copy it back to you, but it will take some time to teach them. But do they really understand what they are saying? Scientists have studied parrots for many years to learn if they are smart enough to understand what they say.

People are amazed by the way parrots can learn to "talk". Some can recite speeches or tell many jokes. Some are so good at saying words and sentences, we are convinced they know what they are saying. But the truth is that they don’t really know what they are saying. They are just excellent copycats or mimics but are not talking intelligently.

Parrots that live in the wild do not talk. They do have noisy voices that squawk and make loud noises. But wild parrots can not imitate words that people say. They do not imitate sounds that they hear. But parrots that are raised to be pets are able to imitate sounds they hear and words that people say. Scientists believe that parrots talk so that they can entertain themselves and not get bored. A bored parrot can become nervous and will pull out feathers from its body.

Did you know that if you want a talking parrot, the African Grey is the best one to buy? It does not have the prettiest colored feathers, but it learns to repeat sounds faster and easier than other parrots do. These parrots can be trained to whistle tunes and can even change their voices. They can even sing parts of a song if you train them by singing it over and over to them.

Not all parrots can learn to sing or say words. It takes a lot of time and patience to teach a bird to talk. The trainer should say the same word over and over. He should say the word the same way every time or else the bird gets confused. It is best to have only one person train the bird to talk. Once the bird learns how to say the first word, then it is able to learn more words quicker and faster.

Did you know that parrots are marvelous pets because they can learn to communicate with you? They can entertain you with their words, their whistling and their singing.
