Pyramids

Pyramids are stone structures built by Egyptians years ago. They were built as a burial chamber and a place for the Pharaoh to spend his afterlife. On of the archeologists' theories is that it is a kind of ramp that leads the Pharaohs' spirit into the afterlife. Another theory is that they used these structures as an astronomy tool to chart the changes in the skies. Others think that the pyramids were for worshipping the sun god which is why they point to the sun.
The pyramids at Giza are some of the largest in Egypt. There are three of them. They were built by Khufu, his son Khafre, and his grandson Menkaure. Khufu's is the biggest one. It took countless workers twenty years and two million blocks to build it. Most people think that the pyramids were built by slaves however they were
built by paid workers.
The site is guarded by a lion with the face of a king that has been carved out of limestone. It is called the Sphinx and was a form of the sun god that Egyptians worshipped.
