Hawai'i's year long warm waters provide an excellent habitat for several marine mammals. Marine mammals are very special and some of them can be seen in the coral reefs of Hawai'i. The Hawai'ian monk seal, Pacific humpback whale, and the Hawai'ian spinner dolphin are three marine mammals that children are very curious about and love to study. Hawaiian monk seals and humpback whales are endangered and many interested groups are protecting them from becoming extinct. For example, we have the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that conducts research and educates others to improve our understanding of the environment and its organisms.
