Big Dipper has two names, Ursa Major and the Great Bear.
In Latin, Ursa means “bear”, and major means “larger.” The Big Dipper has two names because it is in the
constellation, “The Great Bear”. The Little Dipper has another name also, Ursa Minor - Latin for “Small
Bear”. The Little Dipper has two
names because it is in the constellation, “The Small Bear”.
