Information On Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park is located in Utah. If one ever goes there, he may want to see Inspiration Point, one of the main attractions at Bryce. During the winter, the snow-capped rock formations are a beautiful, one-of-a-kind, sight for the eye. The hiking trails go through and around the rocky areas of Bryce.

 Bryce Canyon National Park has a long line of history. The Paiute Indians lived in Bryce Canyon. They called it, ''Red rock standing up like men in bowl shaped canyon.'' Bryce Canyon was established on June 7, 1924. It was established by Ebenezer Bryce. Bryce is not a canyon. It is a basin.

 The fabulous rock formations are spread out all over the canyon and no two are alike. These unusual structures even have a name! Some people call them hoodoos! They are called this because in fading light, they look like ghostly hooded beings. These amazing figures come in more than sixty shades of red, copper, pink, and cream. Water and wind have been chiseling away at Bryce Canyon for years and still are. The remarkable forms come in many shapes such as: spires, columns, and mountians and those are just a few.

Many people come here for many reasons. One may be because of the incredible Insperation Point where pictures can be taken at sunrise and sunset. Some may want to visit the Bryce Amphitheater, one of the main attractions at Bryce . Thor's Hammer, Queen's Garden, Fariyland, and Wallstreet are just some of Bryce's best known features. Some people may want to hike on Navajo Trail.

Plants can be found anywere and everywere at Bryce Canyon. In fact, there are more than 400 species. Bryce's wild flowers do not bloom until summer, where as in other places the wild flower would normaly bloom in spring. At higher altitudes, there are evergreen trees such as Douglas fir,white firs, Aspens and Spruce. Under these the Oregon grape, mountain lover, and common juniper grow.

 Animals are a big thing at Bryce. The chipmunks are Bryce's most common and entertaining animals. More than one hundred sixty kinds of birds come to Bryce a year. Some of the smaller animals include birds, foxes, prarie dogs, marmots, and short horned lizards. Some of the larger mammals include pronghorn antelope, mule deer, bobcats, coyotes, black bears, and even mountain lions.

There are lots of things to do at Bryce. There are hiking trails, horseback riding, skiing, bicycling, and visitor center. There are also campgrounds, trailersites, and cabins.

The weather conditions do not differ very much here at Bryce Canyon between winter and summer. Summer highes are between 80 & 90 degrees. Winter lasts from November to March. Highs in the winter are 30 to 40 degrees. The lows in winter are around 10 degrees. It does snow in winter. And in fall and spring there are delightful crisp cool, evenings.

Bryce Canyon National Park is very fascinating and entertaining. Thousands and thousands of visitors come each year. They come to see the amazing, interesting, wonderful, educational, Bryce Canyon National Park.
