The Cherokee helped in wars between nations.  The Cherokee sided with the British in the British and French struggle between 1756-1763.  Some of them also fought with Great Britain during the American Revolution, which lasted from 1775 to 1783.  The Cherokee had great internal conflict over choosing who to side  with because some of the tribal members owned black slaves.  They eventually sided with the Confederacy in the American Civil War.
